About Hutsulshchyna National Park

Hutsulshchyna National Park is located in the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast of the Ukrainian Carpathians, encompassing a diverse array of mountain ecosystems ranging from dense coniferous forests to alpine meadows. Spanning approximately 32,000 hectares, the park protects pristine beech and spruce forests that provide habitat for rare species such as brown bears, lynx, and chamois. Named after the indigenous Hutsul ethnic group known for their unique wooden architecture, vibrant folk traditions, and artisan crafts, the park is as much a cultural heritage site as it is a natural reserve. Visitors can explore a network of trails that weave through ancient forests, alongside crystal-clear mountain streams, and up to panoramic ridgelines that offer breathtaking views of the Carpathian peaks and valleys. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy guided hikes, mountain biking, bird watching, and in winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The park is dotted with traditional Hutsul villages where visitors can experience local customs, cuisine, and handcrafted souvenirs. Key landmarks include the untouched ancient forests, the picturesque Hoverla Mountain foothills (the highest peak in Ukraine nearby), and several protected sacred groves. Hutsulshchyna National Park appeals to nature lovers, cultural tourists, and adventure seekers looking for well-preserved wilderness combined with rich ethnographic traditions in a tranquil mountain setting.
